The Five Holidays To Show You Care [The OC; Ryan/Kirsten]
TITLE: The Five Holidays To Show You Care
PART 4/5: Valentine's Day
FANDOM: The OC
PAIRING: Ryan/Kirsten
SPOILERS: Seasons three and four
RATING: PG-13
SUMMARY:

*****

Another Valentine's Day had arrived, which meant another fight between Sandy and Kirsten. The argument was half-due to Sandy despising the holiday, believing it to be nothing more than commercially-driven -- just a way for Victoria's Secret, Hallmark and Hershey's to gouge the wallet of every male on the planet. It was also half-due to Sandy's dealings at the Newport Group, getting the new hospital built. It was Kirsten's favorite day of the year, but that, unfortunately, never seemed to matter around the Cohen manor.

So as Ryan watched Sandy and Kirsten arguing in the master bedroom from his vantage-point in the poolhouse, he reached over and picked up his cordless phone, dialing the number that had been in his pocket all week. "Yeah, listen, I know this is a really busy day for you, but... how quickly could you deliver two-dozen pink roses?"

It turned out their delivery turn around time was less than an hour, which was luckily twenty minutes after Sandy had already stormed off to work. Ryan, unsure of what kind of mood Kirsten would be in, chose to spend his time in the poolhouse, tidying up. He was just about to reach for the vacuum cleaner when he heard the poolhouse door open. Kirsten stepped inside, grinning at him and holding the vase that housed her two-dozen pink roses.

"Hey," he greeted nonchalantly, slowly wrapping up the cord for the vacuum. He could clean later.

Kirsten chuckled at his choice greeting. "Hey. Don't suppose you would know who these are from."

Ryan shrugged facially and kept his eyes from hers, commenting with a slight smile, "Well, whoever it is sure must love you a lot."

Then he heard the vase being set down. He looked up to see Kirsten rushing toward him, throwing her arms around his neck. He caught her round the waist as their lips fused together in a fiery kiss, and as her fingers started to attack his shirt buttons they fell back on the bed together, laughing against each other's lips.

"What makes you think it was me?" Ryan teased mid-laugh, gripping her waist. He'd fallen onto his back and she had landed half on top of him.

Kirsten laughed back against his lips and kissed him deeply, still blindly trying to undo all his buttons. "Just... call it a hunch." She kissed him again and added against his lips, "Plus, the card just said 'je t'aime.' Didn't need to think about who that might've been from." She held out her locket with her thumb against the chain -- the locket that held the exact same phrase engraved on its surface.

Ryan smiled. "Guess I didn't really try to be too sneaky about it." He kissed her again while she giggled against his lips, and he flipped them over so he was half-lying on top of her.

This was how most of their intense kissing sessions went since New Year's -- Kirsten would come to the pool house when Sandy and Seth were otherwise occupied. They'd fall into a kiss and flirt with each other mercilessly while they kissed. This would sometimes last for up to an hour. But kissing and flirting was as far as it had gone. Sometimes their shirts would fall away, but it had never crossed that final line.

"I love you too, y'know," Kirsten murmured against him, spreading his now-open shirt apart.

"I know." And he did -- he knew that Kirsten loved him. It was slightly disconcerting, however, that he'd basically told her on New Year's that he was in love with her, and that she hadn't said it back. Part of him felt slighted, while the other part of him wondered what exactly he'd expected -- she was married, after all. He'd fallen in love with a married woman.

"No." Kirsten suddenly sat up and pulled him with her, their foreheads connected and her eyes closed.

"No what?" Ryan opened his eyes and watched her with their foreheads still touching; he ran a finger down her cheek, inciting her to open her eyes.

When she did, and had met his gaze, she repeated what he'd said to her over a month ago. "You might think I love you one way, when in fact... the way I love you is completely different than what you'd think."

"Okay..." Ryan just waited for her to go on, unsure of where this conversation was headed. Sure, a few moments ago she'd been basically tearing his shirt off, but that didn't mean she was in love with him.

"I'm in love with you."

...That did. Ryan blinked. "What?"

Kirsten pulled back from him, her hands still gripping his open shirt, fingering the buttons. "I shouldn't be, but I am. I'm in love with you." She chuckled and shook her head, as if amazed that she'd said it aloud. "I mean... nobody's ever treated me the way that you do, Ryan. I've never felt such a strong connection to someone before. I just, I'm... I'm completely crazy about you." She grinned and exhaled another chuckle. "I mean, when you smile at me I get weak in the knees, and I've never... ever... been kissed so well in my entire life. When we're together it's like the whole world just falls away, and when we're not together I kinda can't stop thinking about you. I--" She laughed and closed her eyes, covering her eyes with her hand. "Oh Ryan, just shut me up before I make a complete fool of myself."

So Ryan, who'd been beaming at her the entire time, cupped the back of her neck in his hand and drew her forward for a sweet kiss. Kirsten smiled against his lips and let her hands travel up to his shoulders while his arms wound around her waist, both of them still on their knees on the bed.

As sweet as the kiss started out, it quickly turned passionate, and they lowered in tandem to the bed. Ryan's hand skirted across her waist, bunching up her shirt until it rested just under her rib cage, stomach exposed. This was also how their intense kissing sessions went, with the slow removal of shirts... except, this time there was something different in the air. A more electric charge, possibly because they both knew how each other felt now.

"Where is everyone?" Ryan asked against her lips suddenly.

Kirsten smiled, replying simply, "Out."

"We're all alone?" He kissed her neck, smiling as he heard her sigh.

"We're all alone."

"Hmm." He moved the collar of her sweater aside to kiss across her shoulder. "Well, whatever we do today is up to you. This is your day, Kirsten... it's all about you."

He felt, without seeing, her smile... and there was a long pause before she gently grabbed his face and pulled him up to meet her eyes, the look in her own smouldering -- serious. Her voice was quiet as she said, "What if I told you I wanted you to make love to me?"

Ryan was certain his eyebrows had never gone up so high. "Uh... well, w-we could do that. Sure. If that's what you want."

"It is. I want to feel how much you love me."

With a soft groan, Ryan leaned down and captured her lips, the kiss intense -- searing their mouths together. Kirsten pushed his shirt off his shoulders before he gently pulled her up and pulled her soft red sweater over her head.

Like all their other kissing sessions, however, it was unable to go beyond shirt removal -- Kirsten's cell phone rang. With a groan, she reached down to answer it, her lips feather-lightly touching Ryan's as she gruffly said, "Hello."

Ryan stroked her bare stomach and watched her lips slip into a pout, her eyes squinting shut almost in a pained expression. "Julie, I'm sorry, I totally forgot. I don't know how I did. I said I'm sorry. I'll be right over to help you."

She slapped her phone shut and looked up at him apologetically. "Julie needs me. I forgot about the New-Match Valentine's singles thing. Ryan, I'm so--"

Ryan shook his head, kissing her gently though his heart was screaming in disappointment. "It's okay." He watched as she sat up and pulled her sweater on once more, and then quicky fixed her tousled hair. "Julie needs you, so go help Julie. I understand."

Kirsten kissed him deeply, murmuring, "I love you," into his mouth. "Nobody ever understands."

"I always will. And I'll be here when you're ready to..." He smiled, almost bashfully. "Uh, celebrate Valentine's Day."

She giggled and kissed him again, apologizing profusely before she took her vase of flowers and headed out.

Ryan sighed and watched her go, content in the knowledge that she was in love with him... but knowing that she wasn't going to come back to celebrate.

Ryan sending Kristen roses was very sweet. He understands her so well.
Kristen's confession about being in love with Ryan was very well written. You can just sense their stong commitment/love for each other. Great update.

That was so very sweet! I really am enjoying these "Five Things" styled fics.(So Addictive!) Seems to me that Sandy is still an self-important fatassed jerk. (Notice since Season 3 began, he's putting on a little bit of a spare tire. The schmear catches up to him!) What he should learn is that an obvious day to show someone just how much you love them is Valentines day. Cohen, take lessons from Ryan.

I sense the celebration of Kirsten's independence coming next:)

Heeee, thank you so much!

And I agree -- Sandy did start putting on some weight in season 3. The price of being a jerk to your gorgeous wife?? :D

The Fourth of July should be up soon!
